My son is 8. And he is partially deaf. He is finally getting a hearing aid . He mostly reads lips, but can hear some sounds if loud enough. (4000 hz) b/c of him not being able to hear, it has affected his speech. Our audiologist told us about this tax credit, which i never knew about, so we had the doctor who's known about the hearing loss since his birth fill out the forms and we submitted them.

Now i've read all the forms, and this is affecting him in multiple areas of life. but when i submitted the form, the lady told me there's still a chance that he could be denied. I'm just wondering if you think he would be denied. Both the doctor and audiologist said he qualifies but now i'm worried after talking the lady at H&R block. Plus it will take anywhere from 3-9 months to get an answer from CRA. Has anyone here applied for the disability tax credit, were you denied or approved, and how long did it take?

Thanks everyone for all your help.

You definitely will qualify for Disability Tax credit.
There is T2201 Disability Tax Credit Certificate.
I believe it needs to be signed by your family practitioner or by the specialist such as audiologist.
this proves that one can claim all the credit rolling backward up to 2008.
keep in mind that Medical expenses have to be over a certain minimum threshold for 3% of net income.

Your practitioner has an important job to do. he or she must fill the form out right for you to get the DTC. If they don’t include enough information, or miss anything, this will cause a delay in application. If you are unsure about your practitioner or do not know them very well, you may want to get professional help to apply for your DTC—such professionals will help the practitioners to fill the forms out correctly.

When you see your practitioner, make sure your practitioner understands what your challenges are. Also, tell your practitioner how important the DTC is for your future. Also advise your doctor that you want to apply for RDSP and the difference it will make to your life. If they know more about it, they may take extra care in filling out your form. We have included a brief outline of the RDSP that you can give to your practitioner, so they can learn more about it.
